MOFO 2016
I am VERY excited to tell you all that my 2013 award-winning graphic novel The Long Weekend in Alice Springs is going into it’s THIRD print run (holy smokes)
…. and I will be performing it … yes, you read right … me and Craig San Roque will be doing a performance of excerpts from the graphic novel in January as part of MOFO, Hobart’s amazing music and art festival. Three small performances at Cinemona, and one absolutely HUGE one at the Odeon Theatre to a humungous crowd. Hopefully that crowd buys some copies of the third print-run so I can cover the costs of printing it (yikes!)
It has been announced today on the MOFO website.
Thanks to you all for your ongoing support of all my projects, none of which would be possible without you (seriously)
Josh
xoxo

Swallows pages 1-4

Crowd funding campaign for Swallows is in all April! Go here!

Swallows Part One is a comic that will be published in August of 2015.

These are the first four pages of it, set in France, but most of the book is set in Melbourne. I’ll chuck up the next pages in a week or so.

I will be setting up a preorder campaign for the entirety of APRIL – you can jump on a crowd-funding website during that month and preorder a copy, which will help me out greatly with the money to print the books – some info at the bottom.

Then I stopped in Melbourne to talk on a panel at the Emerging Writers Festival about publishing.
Now I’m back in Hobart about to organise Her Majesty’s Favourite Really Great Graphical Festival – which is totes rad! Starts Thursday!

ALSO – I have some pieces in Island Magazine #137 – which is out now. I’ll be performing one of these pieces on Friday at Her Maj’s festival.

Translating comics

15 Feb

On Thursday of this week I’ll be presenting a talk in Hobart at the Tas Writers Centre – Adaptation, comics, cultures.

I’ll be showing some bits and bobs about the process of adapting an academic essay into a long-form comic, the trials, tribulations, headaches and successes. I found this process endlessly fascinating – grappling with this difficult beast involves the mechanics of both mediums involved – prose and comics. I’ll have a chat about the various things that you can and can’t do with both mediums, how emphasis changes and how meanings can shift as you reimagine the same content into a different form.

6:30pm at the meeting room at Salamanca Arts Centre, put on by the Twitch writers group with the assistance of the Tasmanian Writers Centre.

Recent media for the Long Weekend

8 Oct

Since publishing The Long Weekend in Alice Springs in March of this year – the first printrun sold out … quite quickly … I admit that I was a little stunned by how quick it happened. I felt a little silly for having only printed 500 copies … but then I thought, well why do I feel silly – how could I have known??!! It’s now in its second printrun and the book is now in over 20 bookstores across Australia, which is great!!

You can also snaffle your copy from Sankessto Publications for $35-

There is also an upcoming booktour in Sydney, Hobart and Adelaide – check out the poster for details.
