Heya – it’s been a while since I last wrote a blog post – soz!
I’VE BEEN CRAY CRAY busy. I finished a draft on my graphic novel Sydney/Purgatorio, took it to the Comic Art Workshop in Melbourne, workshopped it – and yesterday I posted it to Craig San Roque in Alice Springs so he can burn it (or not – it’s his choice).
Down below – I have sketches that I made of most of the Comic Art Workshop attendees in Melbourne (I missed Pat and Liz – who organised it!) These peeps are my tribe.

Swallows Part One is a graphic novella by award-winning comic-artist Joshua Santospirito (The Long Weekend in Alice Springs) about the migration of his ancestors to Australia and how migrants interweave their stories in their new home.
I’ve finally gotten the comic reading for Swallows into a rough film.
I stutter a few times in the narration – but I’m not terribly worried about that – I kinda like it!

I was asked by Rachel Tribout to be the interviewer for the interstellar illustrator and comic-artist from France Aurélie Neyret who recently came to Hobart to talk at an AGDA night. It was a fantastic evening, very well attended – and the audience gushed at Aurélie afterwards, which was great to see. A wonderful artist, and I hope to see more of her works translated to English soon. I know First Second are publishing the comic series – Les carnets de Cerise in 2017 – which is super exciting.

Join award-winning graphic novelist Joshua Santospirito as he talks about the process of making a graphic novella centred on his family’s migration story from the Aeolian Islands.
In 2015 he published Swallows Part One which interweaves the tale of Antonio Santospirito with the growth of the city of Melbourne and our collective histories.
Discover the challenges Joshua faced when making Swallows Part One and see how comics can be used for crossing time and space. Could they be the ultimate vehicle for immigration stories?

I was asked by the great people involved with the Aeolian Hall in Carlton to be part of the interviews for this lovely documentary that is part of the Aeolian Exhibition which is at the Immigration Museum currently. It turned out quite well! I’m the last one interviewed of the seven people that were chosen to represent the descendants of those from the seven Aeolian islands. I mention the making of Swallows.
This week the exhibition of artwork from Swallows Part One went up, my graphic novel about my Aeolian ancestors – it’s running from July to October as an addendum to the Aeolian exhibition at the Immigration Museum in Melbourne. I’ll be heading over there for an artists talk on Saturday August the 6th at 2pm. Stay toon’d.
